Earth Hour 2009 – March 28th

It’s time to show your devotion for a sustainable Atlanta and the environment. Earth Hour 2009 is Saturday, March 28th at 8:30 p.m. What is Earth Hour? Earth Hour began in 2007 in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million homes and businesses switch off their lights for an entire hour as a demonstration against global warming. Last year’s event grew tremendously in size with 50 million people all over the globe, including Atlanta, participating.
Well, this year’s event is more than a demonstration against global warming, it is actually a way to cast your vote for the Earth. Yes, this year’s Earth Hour has become a global election between Earth and global warming. So, if you keep your lights burning through from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., you are casting a vote in support of global warming. By turning your lights off for the hour, you are voting for Earth and helping reduce global warming.
This year’s target is for 1 billion votes, and, if we can reach this ambitious goal, the results will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen. Tell your friends – join the group on Facebook – Twitter about it – blog about it. Do whatever you can to spread the word and get as many people and corporations involved as you can. We only have two weeks to promote this significant election, and we all need to VOTE EARTH!
