National Ground Water Awareness Week, March 6-12, 2011

Georgia Walk to School Day, Wednesday March 2nd

The Georgia Safe Routes to School Resource Center sponsors Georgia Walk to School Day each March. While, schools are encouraged to host their event the first Wednesday in March, they can choose any day in March that best fits their needs.
This year’s state-wide event is Wednesday, March 2. While the events are commonly called, Walk to School Day, the spirit of the event encourages walking or bicycling.

First Arts Organization in the Country with LEED Gold Headquarters
It’s official! Atlanta Ballet’s new, “green” headquarters – the Michael C. Carlos Dance Centre – has received LEED Gold certification, the second highest rating awarded for sustainable building construction. The Centre will grand open with a weekend of festivities August 14.
LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and is the internationally recognized stamp of approval from the U.S. Green Building Council.

Lovers of fresh produce, colorful flowers, and delicious baked goods can double their pleasure this year at the Suwanee Farmers Market. In addition to its traditional Saturday morning hours, the Suwanee market also will be open Tuesday evenings.
“Our farmers are excited to be able to offer fresh produce twice a week through the Suwanee market,” says Events Coordinator Amy Doherty. “Now, those residents who enjoy sleeping in on the weekend have a chance to enjoy fresh, in-season produce, too, on Tuesday evenings.”
