The Georgia Safe Routes to School Resource Center sponsors Georgia Walk to School Day each March. While, schools are encouraged to host their event the first Wednesday in March, they can choose any day in March that best fits their needs.
This year’s state-wide event is Wednesday, March 2. While the events are commonly called, Walk to School Day, the spirit of the event encourages walking or bicycling.

The Pulse of the Planet Kids’ Science Challenge asks kids (Grades 3 through 6) to propose an original question, problem or experiment that relates to three fields of scientific inquiry or engineering: bio-inspired design, sports on Mars, and detective or forensic science. The entries judged in each field to be the most original will win the Grand Prize for that field – a visit with the scientist or engineer to collaborate on the question or problem proposed, along with possible appearances in Kids’ Science Challenge videos and Pulse of the Planet …

Daves Creek Elementary and Reaping Nature Productions received Certificates of Distinguished Service for waste reduction from Keep Georgia Beautiful (KGB) in November. The KGB Awards Program honors those whose ongoing efforts in community improvement, waste reduction, and/or litter prevention exemplify leadership in protecting Georgia’s environment.

The Cobb County School District is ‘thinking green’ by expanding efforts to conserve resources and partnering with the Clean Air Campaign to build a community of Clean Air Schools. During its April 15 work session, the Board of Education enthusiastically supported the new partnership with Clean Air Campaign, a non-profit organization that works with Georgia businesses, schools and individuals to promote clean air policy and commute options for employees.
