Green Building Tour
Mondays & Thursdays in August at 1:00 PM and Sundays at 4:00 PM.
Tour our unique, energy efficient Discovery Center, certified by the US Green Building Council. Learn about what we did to make our building “green” and how you can incorporate LEED at your home! Creature Feature- Butterflies and Moths
Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays in August at 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM, plus every Saturday & Sunday in August at 3:00 PM
Learn about these powerful pollinators and the plants and animals that rely on them. Creature Feature is our new exciting program that explores animals that call the Chattahoochee River home, focusing on a unique animal and a unique feature of life monthly. All ages. Naturalist-led Canoe Trips
Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in August at 6:00 PM – dusk, plus Saturday mornings at 8:30 AM.
Ages 6 & up. This is a fantastic way to unwind from the daily hustle and bustle of suburban life, or to entertain family and friends. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience one of metro Atlanta’s best-kept secrets! Each trip is led by CNC naturalists, and offers a unique introduction to the ecology of the Chattahoochee River. Guided Nature Hikes
Every Saturday in August at 10:00 AM & 12:00 PM
Every Sunday in August at 12:00 & 2:00 PM
Join a CNC guide on a journey along a CNC trail. Using biofacts & activities, CNC docents will reveal the hidden mysteries of the woodlands and wetlands trails. All ages. Family Night Owls Campout
Saturday, August 1 – Sunday, August 2, 6:00PM – 10:00AM
We have had so many requests for this that we are excited to bring you our popular Scout Night Owls to the Family! Bring a picnic dinner to enjoy, then we will enjoy a journey into the STARLAB, learn about nocturnal animals and make batty crafts, take a night hike, make s’mores by the campfire and sing songs, tour the new Discovery Center and grounds, and more!!  Be part of our first ever Family Night Owls! $45 non-members/$30 members per person. Ages 5- adult. Pre-registration required.

Story Time by the River
Wednesday, August 5, 10:00 – 11:00 AM,

Summer Sky Stargazing
Saturday, August 8; 8:00-10:00 PM
Join Emory astronomer and supernova hunter, Alex Langoussis, in observing the night sky. You will learn about summer constellations, how to locate specific stars, and handy tricks and tips to enjoy star gazing even more. Bring binoculars for a better look. Hand held Planispheres included in class fee. Ages 16 and up. $20 non-members/$15 members. Pee-Wee Naturalist (Ages 3 & 4)

Come find out about the year ahead in Pee-Wee Naturalists! Exclusive Access to CNC – Photographers Only
Saturday, August 15; 6:30-9:30 AM
The light will be perfect, you’ll have the grounds to yourselves & our staff will bring out our collection of native non-releasable hawks & owls. Capture CNC in a unique way – what more could you want from a morning of nature photography? Ages 16 and up. $20 non-members/$15 members.

Bird Walk
Saturday, August 15; 8:00-10:00 AM
Join CNC wildlife volunteer and Master Birder, Stacy Zarpentine, for a morning bird walk to discover what feathered friends you will find around the grounds. Family Canoe Day
Saturday, August 15 from 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM
Learn about canoes and how to paddle them.  Then use what you’ve learned as you practice safely on the CNC pond. Bats!
Saturday, August 15; 7:00-10:00 PM
Have you ever wondered why these elusive creatures are so important?  Have you seen a bat up close?  Join us for this multi-faceted program including classroom education, dinner & bat netting. Hosted in partnership with the Georgia Bat Working Group. $30 non-members/$20 members, includes dinner. Docent Orientation

In this introduction class, we will explore the various areas of education volunteering, including leading guided hikes, interpreting exhibits, and doing animal presentations. Family Pond Study

Night Hike

Join a naturalist on a journey outdoors to see what happens at night at the Chattahoochee Nature Center, visit with a nocturnal animal and enjoy a summer campfire! Summer StarLab
Sunday, August 23, 12:30 – 1:30 PM
A naturalist will guide you as you learn about the stars, constellations, and planets that are prominent in the summer night sky in our STARLAB planetarium. Pee-Wee Planters (Ages 3 – 6)
Saturday, August 29, 9:45-11:00 AM
You will explore Edible Plants as you plant flowers as you plant flowers, create fern prints and snack on some interesting roots and stems! $15 non-members/$10 members (adult helper required and admitted free). Nighthawk Migration – Bird watching
Saturday, August 29 and Sunday, August 30; 6:15 PM – dark
Join CNC volunteer and Master Birder, Stacy Zarpentine, for an evening of bird watching and migration. The Common Nighthawk migratory route passes right over CNC.  This is also a great opportunity to see other native species that are active at dusk. General admission: adults $8, seniors $6, children $5 and children 2 and under are free.

Palisades Canoe Float & Late Summer Flora
Sunday, August 30; 10:00 AM-3:00 PM
Bring your own boat or use a CNC canoe and join us for a very leisurely float on the Chattahoochee River. The area offers a great diversity of habitats and includes oak-hickory forest, steep north facing slopes, mesic ravine forest, and floodplain forest. This will be a great trip for butterflies as well.  Bring a pack lunch, water and snacks provided. $35 non-members/$30 members.
