Imagine It! The Children’s Museum of Atlanta offers children unique, hands-on learning opportunities and sparks imagination through the power of play. Below is a schedule for the current featured exhibit, Exploring Trees Inside and Out, as well as special programming taking place at Imagine It! in July.

Exhibit Opening

Exploring Trees Inside and Out
Now through September 13, 2009
In Exploring Trees Inside and Out, children will experience the sights, sounds and scents of a tree.  Children can climb through a larger-than-life tree from the roots to the canopy, lie in the rope netting for a bird’s-eye view, and jump into a giant bird’s nest.  They can walk into a giant acorn, build a birdhouse, and dress up as their favorite animal, insect or tree and dance with the trees.  Children will leave the exhibit with a greater understanding and appreciation of trees and the key role they play in our daily lives.

The Nature Explore traveling exhibit “Exploring Trees Inside and Out” is nationally and locally sponsored by Doubletree Hotels.  Additional local support is provided by The Kendeda Fund, Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., Georgia-Pacific, LLC, USDA Forest Service, the Georgia Forestry Commission, The Georgia Sustainable Forestry Initiative Implementation Committee, the Georgia Peach Commission, and Southeastern Wood Producers Association, Inc.  Major funding for Imagine It! is provided by the Fulton County Board of Commissioners under the guidance of the Fulton County Arts Council.  Media sponsorship is provided by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.  The Nature Explore traveling exhibit “Exploring Trees Inside and Out” is a collaborative project of the Arbor Day Foundation and Dimensions Educational Research Foundation.  The exhibit is touring nationally through 2010 thanks to the generous support of Doubletree Hotels.

Tulie’s Roots

Mondays-Fridays at 11:30 AM & 1:00 PM; Saturday, July 4 at 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM & 3:00 PM; Saturday, July 11, 18 & 25 at 3:00 PM; Sundays at 12:00 PM

All Pat wants to do is stay inside to play video games and watch TV, but his Mom and Dad send him outside to play.  He quickly learns that the great outdoors is great fun!  In this 20-minute original mini-musical, Pat makes a new friend named Tulie, a Tulip Poplar tree, whose woodsy games and tree lessons help him discover that he loves to play outside.

Stump Stomp

Tuesdays-Saturdays at 2:00 PM

Stomp on stumps to the catchy drum beats and sway your branches side to side to songs about trees.

Sunflower Sprouts

Sundays at 11:00 AM

Little sprouts work on their green thumb as they design a flower pot, fill it with soil, and plant a sunflower seed.  With a little sunlight, water and TLC they’ll be able to grow a cheerful sunflower that can be transplanted outside at home.

Terrific Tree Tales

Mondays-Fridays at 3:00 PM; Saturdays at 4:00 PM

Pull up a stump and join an Imaginator for a terrific story that teaches children about the wonders of trees and how important they are to us.
