Is Your Home as Green as Google?

23 February 2010 No Comment

Google can now buy and sell energy in bulk thanks to approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). However, Internet giant Google doesn’t have plans to sell energy to consumers or anyone else.  Google plans to use its FERC certification in order to manage its own energy supplies as efficiently as possible. I suppose it does take quite a bit of energy to run the world’s largest search engine!  If you think your power bill is high, imagine the energy required to run all of those servers.

In Atlanta, we are lucky to be the home of the green building program, EarthCraft House. Much like the program that Google is crafting for energy efficiency, homes that are approved as EarthCraft homes serve as a blueprint for healthy comfortable homes that reduce utility bills and protect the environment. For homebuyers seeking to reduce their energy bills over the life of their home, this is the house for them. An energy efficient house can be more economical and affordable even if it has a higher list price than another home built with standard construction practices. Make sure to do your research and know the true cost of homeownership before buying!
